Improved manufacturing processīefore we get to the numbers, we should mention that it is expected for the M2 to be manufactured on TSMC’s N4P process, which is an enhanced form of the 5nm process on which the A14 and M1 were manufactured. The CPU cores will be swapped out for a 2-efficiency, 8-performance setup, and GPU cores will be quadrupled from the base M1 chip (for a total of 40). We’ll generate performance expectations with a doubling of that to 10 cores, which jibes with rumors about the M2’s configuration.įor the M2 Max, we assume the same scaling-up as from the M1 to M1 Max. Note that the A15 actually has five GPU cores, with the fifth one enabled only in the iPhone 13 Pro models.
In trying to predict the M2’s features and performance, we will operate on the assumption that it will follow a similar pattern, only this time with the A15: the same architecture with twice the high-performance cores and GPU cores.
